Major Donors

The Government of Japan
The Government of Japan is UNDP/PAPP's largest partner and over the years has provided a total of over US$190 million for project implementation. This long-term investment in Palestinian development has had a positive impact on a range of sectors, including infrastructure, health, and rural development. From the construction of schools and hospitals, to support to poverty reduction, Japan has worked with UNDP/PAPP to directly confront the dire economic and social conditions, through the rebuilding of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The German Development Bank (KfW)
The German Development Bank (KfW) funds a wide range of projects throughout the world, giving impetus to economic, social and cultural development. The bank stimulates innovations and the equity capital market, advances environmental protection and facilitates the expansion of municipal infrastructure. KfW's projects in the West Bank and Gaza are aimed at rehabilitating many areas of the Palestinian social and economic infrastructure and preventing the further deterioration of the living conditions of the Palestinian people.

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB)
Established in Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1973, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was set up to foster the economic development and social progress of member states, as well as Muslim communities around the world. In the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), IDB works extensively in providing technical assistance, as well as funding for a variety of development projects. IDB has funded a range of UNDP/PAPP projects, and is currently among the top three donors to educational infrastructure in the West Bank and Gaza. Through IDB's assistance, thousands of Palestinian children have been able to go to school in a safer and more learning-conducive environment.

The Government of Italy
Since 1988, the Government of Italy and UNDP/PAPP have had a long term investment in Palestinian development. The total Aid committed by Italy in this period amounts at more than 200 million dollars.  Through UNDP/PAPP, the Government of Italy’s overall focus is primarily on the development of health institutions in the oPt, ranging from the rehabilitation and expansion of hospitals, supporting mental health projects, to providing medical supplies and equipment. Accordingly, most funds, implemented through UNDP/PAPP, to other sectors over the years have been for the education sector through the pioneering SPEP programme, in addition to agriculture and environment.

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) works throughout the world helping people help themselves. CIDA supports sustainable development, with the aim of reducing poverty and contributing to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. CIDA's long term development assistance in the West Bank and Gaza is focused on creating an environment where peace and socio-economic development can be sustained. The agency works towards this goal through improving the living conditions of Palestinians, increasing employment and assisting in the development of democratic institutions. CIDA has worked extensively with UNDP/PAPP, particularly through support to the Emergency Response Programme, as well as a wide range of employment generating activities. Assistance has been provided to a number of areas, including the health and agricultural sectors and municipal and social infrastructure.
