Overall Mission

The United Nation's Development Programme is the UN's global development network. It advocates for change and connects countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

UNDP/PAPP's Goals

At the September 2000 Millennium Summit, world leaders agreed on a set of target goals and an ambitious agenda for reducing poverty and improving lives known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) .

As a partner in the UNDP's development network, the over-arching mission of the Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP) is to work on the fulfilment of these goals, especially with respect to the development of the Palestinian people. For the realization of these goals, UNDP/PAPP focuses on the following areas:

  • Democratic Governance to develop institutions and processes that are not only reflective of the will of the people, but are also more responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens, particularly the poor.
  • Poverty Reduction through innovative solutions, that ensure that the poor participate in the process as well as expanding access to productive assets and economic opportunities, and mainstreaming poverty related issues.
  • Crisis Prevention and Recovery to assist the people in recouping losses incurred in times of crisis and conflict and to strengthen and implement policies and programmes that incorporate conflict prevention and peace-building perspectives.
  • A sound Energy and Environmental Policy without which sustainable development cannot be ensured for future generations.
  • Access to Information and Communications Technology to provide people with a powerful tool for participating in global markets; promoting political accountability; improving the delivery of basic services; and enhancing local development opportunities.
  • Economic Development
